CNR partners Simone Panfiglio and Andrea Frazzica conducted a detailed technical survey on vessels from the Mazara del Vallo fishing fleet, one of the most significant in Italy. The study assessed onboard systems, energy consumption, and available spaces to test the replicability of ZHENIT technologies on operational vessels. Findings highlighted a trend toward smaller engines in line with EU decarbonization policies, similar to developments in the automotive sector. This transition opens opportunities to integrate waste heat recovery systems for seawater desalination and other onboard services. The survey provided valuable insights into how ZHENIT solutions could enhance efficiency and sustainability in the fishing sector.
